BHS timelines
If you and your child are planning postsecondary schooling or training, you're not alone. To help you through the process, we've collected the following information from current parents, graduated parents, and the Guidance department.
Freshman and Sophomore Years
Freshman Year: Students are making a big transition from middle school into the high school. The focus should therefore be on getting situated academically and socially at BHS. Students should study, join a club, or do a sport. It's a chance to express and develop interests, goals and independence.
Sophomore Year: Parents, this is a time for you to start thinking about colleges. Do a bit of research and review the Junior & Senior Year timelines below. Do not feel it necessary to include your student, unless s/he expresses an excitement about colleges and wishes to join your research. Students should be focussing on their academics and extracurriculars, and for many of them college still feels very far away.
READING: By Boston-based author and parent, Terry Greene Clark's Demystifying College Admissions.
FINANCING: Presentation of college financing options by Massachusetts Educational Financing Authority (MEFA).
